The Line Out

If the ball is kicked, carried, or knocked out of bounds (“in to touch”), the game restarts with a lineout.
A lineout is formed with two lines of players, one from each team, facing the sideline; the ball is thrown in between the two lines. Generally, the team that did not kick the ball in to touch gets to throw the ball in to the lineout. The team throwing in will determine how many players are in the line out. While the ball must be thrown straight between the two lines of players, the team throwing in has the advantage, since they know who they are going to throw to. Penalties occur at a line out when a player unfairly interferes with an opponent.

“The Spirit of Rugby describes people’s love of the game – its rich history, traditions, camaraderie, high standards of behavior, community involvement and the feelings of national pride it evokes. How well do you uphold the spirit of Rugby on and off the Field?”
